The Video Game History Foundation (VGHF) has officially launched its digital archive, offering early access to a vast collection of over 30,000 curated files. The archive features more than 1,500 full-text searchable assets, including out-of-print video game magazines, rare development materials, artwork, and promotional content. These materials provide a glimpse into the history of gaming, with items like guidebooks and a selection of promotional material from the first 12 years of E3.
The digital library also contains unique collections, such as FromSoftware promotional materials gathered by archivist Kris Urqhart and 100 CDs filled with art and press releases from GamePro magazine. This initiative aims to make video game history more accessible and allow users to search for specific games, authors, and publishers across public and internal materials.
VGHF founder Frank Cifaldi expressed his pride in launching the archive, highlighting its role in making video game history accessible to everyone. He also emphasized the importance of preserving industry work and encouraged others to contribute to similar initiatives. The VGHF’s digital archive is expected to change the way video game history is studied, offering new opportunities for researchers, fans, and content creators to explore the medium’s rich past.
